Summary or Abstract : In search of individual characteristics related to second languge acquisition, researchers have examined the relationships of cognitive, personality and sociocultural variables to performance on language tests. The psychological literature contains evidences that the cognitive style construct of field dependence /independence as a cognitive factor affects hypothesis testing, inferencing and restructuring behaviour on various problem solving tasks. Hence the same cognitive has been hypothesized a factor that might influence the cloze performance as well. The current study tried explore effect of cognitive restructuring abiliry as a major construct of FD /I in witkin final work on cloze test performace a contraversal area of investigation throughout the past decade by providing further emperical evidence from EFL persian students majoring in English. The results provided a firm basis to reject the stated null - hypotheses of the study. The findings showed " FI " to be related consistantly in a positive fasion to second language cloze test performance..
