Summary or Abstract : Writing has been excluded from the EFL programmes in spite of the fact that written communication may be regarded as enjoyable as any other activity by the students. The joy of putting concepts on paper for our own or pleasure or for others' has been emphasized by everyone who has the experience of learning a second or a third language. In this study the objective is to look beyond writing itself, to the relations that can be revealed between our knowledge of the world and ways of representing that Knowledge. to its connections with other skills, its bases in our abilities which pertain in general to our human capacity to communicate, to its place in the process of " learning how to mean ". Writing is thus a negotiative and exploratory set requiring great understanding, judgement and interest. In other words, writing ability is not learned but is acquired via extensive reading in which the focus of the reader is on the message, that is reading for genuine interest and / or pleasure. Some null hypotheses were made in this study, namely as: 1. Reading literary texts has no effects on the improvement of the EFL's skills in expository writing. 2. Reading in general( whether literary or non literary texts) has no effects on the EFL's abilities in expository writing..
