Summary or Abstract : Every language, as is claimed by linguists, has its own particular strategies to make sure that the communication will be carried out successfully. One of the most frequently used strategies is loading the message with apparently more information than what realy is needed. Seemingly, this is a universal strategy beacuse it has been observed in all the language of the world which have been studied so far. This study is an attempt to investigate some similarities and differences between English and Persian redundancy rules in written texts. we will also measure the rate of redundancy used in the written texts of each of the two languages. The research tried to find the way of the problem by aiming at answering the following two research questions: 1. Do English and Persian language have the same amount of redundancy, if not, which one is more redundant? 2. At what level of those two languages redundancy is more at work( lexical, semantic, or syntactic)? Concerning the above reseach questions, two null hypotheses were proposed as follows: 1. There is no difference in the amount of redundancy utilized by English and Persian languages. 2. The strategies of providing redundant information are not different in English and Persian languages..
