Summary or Abstract : Only in recent years has listening been recognized as an important element in daily living and as a medium of communication which requires instruction. Listening has been defind as " a creative experience for the listener who is doing more than absorbing, that is, thinking bout the message, relating it to past experiences, and planning how it can be applied to future activities ". Due to the great importance of listening as a tool of education and its unquestionable impact on all learning, the schemata or background knowledge on listening comprehension and recall of passages in an FL learning situation. More specifically questions: 1. what is the effect of activated schemata on FL learners listening comprehension? 2. what is the relationship between the activated schemata - background knowledge - on recall of listening passage? Based on the above research questions two null hypotheses were developed: 1. There is no significant correlation between FL learners' background Knowledge and their listening comprehension. 2. The activation of FL learners' background knowledge has no significant impact on their recall of a listening passage. the results revealed that activated schemata had a facilitating effect on learners; listening comprehension. Thus the first null hypothesis was rejected. Concerning the second null hypothesis. The results of the analysis showed once again that the difference between the means of the groups on recall - test not merely occur by chance, rather it was quite significant..
