Summary or Abstract : This study proposed a comparison on the students' performance on two different forms of cloze procedure , standard cloze and alternative cloze as achievement tests of vocabulary and grammar. In addition , it was attempted to make another comparison between students' performance on a general English language test and technical English language test. This research was also designed to assess the statistical characteristics of the study measures.The idea for this study evolved from the need for the development of economic and practical tests for the ESP students of medicine in our country. Since cloze procedure have proved to be easy to construct , administer and score , it seemed warranted to work on this procedure. This study was done in three phases: truction of the tests , second the administration of the tests , and third the analysis of the results. The results indicated that students performed significantly better on TSAC than TSSC , which was due to the fact that ESP students were more competent in handling vocubulary items than grammatical items. For the second question , the results showed that students' competency in general English was the same as their competency in technical English. This result also indicatedthat the cloze tests were parallel tests and cloze could be considered as a unitary technique..
