Summary or Abstract : The present study tries investigate the effect of extensive reading on the development of the language proficiency of high school students. This study is organized as follows: Chapter I, an introductory section, covers preliminaries and background. Among other things, this chapter states the hypothesis and research question. It is assumed that extensive reading develops high school student's, language proficiency. Therefore, the research question is: What is the extensive reading on the development of high school students' language proficiency? Chapter II covers a review of related literature. On the important of reading it is said reading is an important activity in modern life and a most important skill in EFL practice. Chapter III is about the design of the study, how it was accomplished and what method was used to collect and analyze the data. Chapter IV includs the presentation of analysis of data. Results are displayed through tables. finally, Chapter V discusses findings of the study and their pedagogical implications. This chapter concludes with suggestion for further research. This study will be practical pedagogical importance. The results of this study will show whether exposing learners to large quantities of meaningful and interesting L2 material will produce any beneficial effect on the learners' overall command of the L2. And the end of the experiment any probable increase in the proficiency level of the experimental group - compared with that of control group - will be attributed to the effect of extensive reading..
