Summary or Abstract : This study was carried out assess the validity of the following two independent null hypotheses: 1. The reading strategies of good Iranian readers of English are NOT different from those of their weak counterparts. 2. Better reading strategies are not teachable, i.e., it is NOT possible to teach good reading habits to poor readers and expect the latter group to catch up with the former. To assess the validity of these hypotheses, a few procedures were done. First, the reading strategies of good and poor readers were readers were extracted through afew means. Having computed the results, the Chi - square formula for the possible difference between the reading habits of good and poor readers was run, and as the observed figure was significantly smaller than the corresponding figure in the Table of Critical Values of X at . 5 level of significance, the first null hypothesis was supported and the reading strategies of good and poor readers were found to be NOT stasistically different. The second null htpothesis was rejected and good reading strategies were found to be teachable..
