Summary or Abstract : This study was attempt to investigate the effectivness of teaching reading strategies on the reading achievement of Iranian EFL learners. To do so, a null hypothesis was formed: There in no relationship between Iranian EFL students' reading achievement and strategic reading instruction, i.e.: there is no significant defference between reading comprehension ability of those subjects who experienced strategic reading instruction and those who did not. The researcher randomly selected two groups of EFL students who were all in their second year of university education majoring in English Translation or English Literature. The subjects in the experimental group were placed in a five - process program which included the following: 1. General strategy discussion. 2. Teacher modeling 3. student reading 4. Analysis of strategy use. 5. Strategy explanation and discussion. The results revealed that the subject who were instructed in strategic reading were better reading performers, thus rejecting the null hypothesis.
