Summary or Abstract : The current syudy analyzes the relationship between field - independent / field dependent cognitive style persion students and the degree of their English language proficiency in formal classroom setting, hence the following formal statements of hypotheses were raised: 1. There is no significant difference between field independent / field dependent cognitive style persion students and the degree of their English language proficiency in formal classroom settings. 2. There is no significant difference between the degree of field - independency and English language proficiency of Persion students in formal classroom settings. 3. There is no significant difference between the degree of field - dependency and English language proficiency of persion students in formal classrooom settings. The current study tried to investigate whether , and to what extent , there is to a relationship between field independence / field dependence cognitive styles and English language proficiency of persion students in formal classroom settings, as well as realize whether the direction is facilitative or hindersome, i.e. Whether field independence / field dependence facilitates or hinders English language proficiency of persion students in formal classroom setting.The finding of this study clarified that field independence cognitive style definitely plays an impotant and significant role in English language proficiency of persian students in formal classroom setting..
