Summary or Abstract : The purpose of the present study is to explore a relationship between bilingualism and interpreting. In other words, the present research attempts to make a comparison between the performance of a professional interpreter and that of a bilingual who is required to perform as an interpreter in the very same situation as that in which the interpreter performs.The underlying assumption for such a comparison is that the closer the individual to perfect bilingualism as defined by Bloomfield, the better opportunity he will have to make a successful interpreter, that is say. there is a direct relationship between the degree of bilingulity of the individual and his performance as an interpreter. To Explore this, the study deals with each of the two disciplines thoroughly. allocating a chapter to each probing the various definitions, types and modes put forth by different scholar. A main implication of the present study is that in interpreter training courses if the trainees are not familiarized and gradually equipped with what has been suggested in the study. teaching interpreting will in fact be nothing but a language teaching course, and thus we may claim that in order for the interpreter training schools to be successful, only bilinguals should be admitted so that instead of teaching languages to the volunteers, they can merely embark on training them as interpreters..
