Summary or Abstract : This Research project aimed at showing if, and in what way(s), the intra - lingual semantic similarities of words effect vocabulary learning.To accomplish this goal, two groups of university students were shosen. The first group (the experimental group) was taught semantically similar words contrastively. The second group (the control group) was taught the same words; However, it received the words randomly without being made aware of any such similarities. Both groups were then tested with already contructed and validated test, and their mean scores were compared using a case II t - test procedure.The observed t - value was calculated to be 3.5 and according to fisher and Yate;s table of t - distribution the critical value was found to be 2.00. The result rejected the null hypothesis and showed a significant positive relationship between the contrastive teaching of sematically similar words and vocabulary learning..
