Summary or Abstract : متخصصین امر آزمون سازی همواره به دنبال یافتن روشی برای بهبود کیفیت آزمونهای مختلف می باشند. هدف از انجام تحقیق حاضر ارائه روشی برای بهبود روایی و پایایی آزمون های کلوز می باشد. از لحاظ نظری این تحقیق بر اساس دیدگاه الدرسون در باره آزمون های کلوز استوار است. به اعتقاد او کلوز به خودی خود آزمون مطلوبی برای سنجش دانش کل زبانی نیست بلکه روشی است برای ساخت آزمونهای مطلوب از نظر روایی و پایایی. نتایج بدست آمده در این مطالعه نشان می دهد که روشهای تحلیل داده‌ها و واحدهای آزمون می توانند ابزار مطمئنی برای بهبود روایی و پایایی آزمونهای مختلف از جمله آزمون کلوز باشند
: Cloze reliability and validity has been a never ending concern for language testers. Thus, these two crucial issues have been addressed in many studies on cloze testing. This study can be categorized amongst the same. It investigates the possibility that the reliability and validity of a cloze precedure can be improved by applying traditional item analysis and selection techniques. Students in a single level at the iran language Institute were chosen for this study because previous experience and research had indicated that cloze tests generally produce low reliability and validity coefficients in samples where in the range of language proficiencies is limited. This turned out to be the case when a 317 - word every seven word deletion cloze passage with 40 items was administered to this group. the study was designec such that 200 of the potienal items in this passage could be pilited and item analyzed. The results of the item analysis were used to select the best items on the basis of item facility and discriministered to the same group and the results for the original version of the cloze test were compared to those for the tailored version. These results indicate statistically significant and meaningful improvements in test quality due to the revision. The dispersion of scores, reliability and validity were all substantially improved by the item analysis and selection processes..
