Summary or Abstract : .هدف تحقیق: تاثیر بافت زبانی محدود و بافت زبانی گسترده روی پاسخ زبان آموزان سه سطح مختلف به سوالات دانش واژگان تافل است. پرسش های تحقیق: ایا عملکرد زبان آموزان سطح پیشرفته درسوالات دانش واژگان تافل با بافت زبان محدود و بافت زبانی گسترده متفاوت است؟ آی اعملکرد زبان آموزان سطح متوسط عالی در سوالت دانش واژگان تافل با بافت زبانی محدود و بافت زبانی گسترده متفاوت است؟ نتایج نشان می دهد که زبان آموزان تمام سطوح در آزمون دانش واژگان با بافت زبانی گسترده عملکرد ضعیفی داشتند بنابر این فرضیه های تحقیق رد شد
: Vocabulary tests have witnessed the refinement of a rich variety of approaches and tools for research and development. A communicative approach to language teaching in the late 20th moved away vocabulary testing from discrete item towards more embedded and integrative approaches. In this trend, vocabulary is only assessed in the context of a language use task, and as part of other components of language knowledge. Compared to conventional vocabulary tests that measure knowledge of meaning and usage of words as independent units, the role of vocabulary knowledge has been downgraded. The present study investigated the functioning of two different vocabulary item format that differed with regard to passage embeddedness of item stems. Two different TOEFL vocabulary item format including narrow co-text and broad co-text based vocabulary items were administered to a participating sample of 48 English language students from three different proficiency level (intermediate, higher intermediate and advanced) in Hafez language Institute in Mashad. Results indicated that, for the present sample of items and persons, narrow co-text based vocabulary items performed better than broad co-text in all groups. Advanced group outperformed higher intermediate, and intermediate in both tests. Difference among groups in broad co-text based was less than narrow co-text based..
