The aim of the present research is to delve into the issues of "foreignization and domestication" proposed by Lawrence Venuti (1995), in the English translations of the Noble Qur'an. First, the issues of translatability and untranslatability of the Qur'an are thoroughly discussed; then the strategies adopted by the translators of the Qur'an with regards to rendering a foreignized or domesticated translation are carefully analyzed. Taking each Qur'anic Aya (verse) as the unit of translation, the researcher presupposes that translators belonging to different religious backgrounds, i.e. Christianity, Islam, etc. tend to adopt different strategies regarding foreignization or domestication in their renditions. Hence, the content of the Qur'anic verses may be, to some extent, differently conveyed to the English language readers of their translations. Based on this idea, it is obvious that the quality of the translations of the Holy Qur'an and the level to which the content of the Qur'anic verses are understood, categorically depend on the two mentioned strategies. The procedure adopted in this research consists of analyzing three English translations of the Qur'an by 1) Arthur J. Arberry, 2) Muhammad Taqi-ud-Din Al Hilali & Muhammad Muhsin Khan and 3) M.H. Shakir.Through a comparative analysis of the three translations, the extent to which the translators have applied a foreignizing or domesticating strategy is extracted and the consistency in adopting these strategies is analyzed..
