Summary or Abstract : Listening plays a significant role in the language learning process, and communication and its development as a key foreign language skill has gradually become the chief concern of language teachers and scholars. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of using English or no caption with an English-language sound track on the university-level Iranian EFL students' listening comprehension of video passage material. In order to conduct this study 60 students of Azzahra University were selected through the process of making them homogeneous, by means of an English Proficiency Test (TOEFL). Afterwards, the students were put into two groups to receive different treatments. Both groups watched a short episode (20 minutes) of the film "Girl With A Pearl Earring" and after that they were asked to take a 20-item multiple choice test. The difference between these groups was in the caption of the film; that is, the first group watched the film with English caption and the second group watched the film without the caption.Different statistical computations were later applied to the data to see the results. In the end, it was shown that using caption had a significant effect on the students' listening comprehension and those who received the English caption outperformed the other groups. Therefore, based on the obtained results, it could be concluded that providing captions for Iranian university-level EFL students could help them to overcome their listening comprehension difficulties..
