This research reflects on the link between power abuse, cognitive mind control and (translated) text from the perspective of critical discourse analysis. It reveals how mistranslated versions of the Qur an have contributed to the false representation of Islam and Muslims, the fact whose charge remains with the Western imperial powers. It proposes a new framework for the investigation of power through the means of translation, focusing on a corpus of five infamous translations of the Qur an. Approximately two hundred verses of each translation were critically analyzed, according to Farahzad's (2009) model, at microlevel whereas the macrolevel was very generally examined. The findings suggested that there are numerous mistakes and/ or errors in four of the translations which cannot be confidently judged to have risen due to bias and aiming at misinformation. However, the translation by Alexander Ross contained too many suspicious inaccuracies which might have been included in order to defame Islam..
