Summary or Abstract : .
: Historical rendering and poetical representation, as two separate endeavors, have entangled the mind of great thinkers from antiquity. In this research, two Historical plays of two Romantics, Baillie in England, and Schiller in Germany in the times of the awakened historical consciousness due to the turbulent French Revolution are considered, and their peculiar treatments of the historically documented facts are reflected as an aesthetic rendering. High Imagination at work in their Aesthetic re-production, both of them as Romanticists are shown as a challenge to the eighteenth century atomistic view of the world and yielding to the causality of history. This research argues that their narratives of history provide corresponding peculiarities that conform to the ideas generated by postmodernist historiography and what Hayden White has propounded in his Metahistory. The German Aesthetics and philosophy also perceived as the building blocks of the Romantic tendency in Literature brought up the Romantic Movement. In analysis of Schiller, a representative of German Idealism, and a champion of freedom with an abundance of historical writings and philosophical reconsiderations, a reference has been made to his development of the idea of sublime from Kant. The way he employs a bifocal perspective in regard to Political Necessity in his Maria Stuart, and his adoption of Historical Sublime, is interpreted as an Idealist`s treatment of history in purely Aesthetic ways. Revealed in the historical sublime of Schiller, his taking liberties to make deliberate molding of the historical documents, and his manifest higher preference for the ethics of aesthetics in regard to gender, his ultimate elevation of Aesthetics to disputes of religion is unraveled. In regard to a more conservative Baillie, the leading female Romantic dramatist, and her Constantine Paleologus, or, The Last of the Caesars, who is not invading much into the historicism of her material, her feminist revolutionary perspectives in the Aesthetics of gender, which is building upon the role of genders, and gender politics is recognized. The present research shows that the narrative of historical discourse in both these writers have dealt with as many issues as Aestheticism, sublimity, undermining the orthodoxies of the Enlightenment, and refutation of the plausibility of a definite truth of a historical narrative which comply with the historical pluralism that Hayden White posits..
