: In the case of automobile insurance, insurer undertakes compensation of some events such as collision, upset, explosion and in general clash of car with any substance. According to growth of this type of insurance in recent years, detection of factors which affect decision to make fraudulent claim, seems urgent. Insurance fraud occurs when the insured makes a false claim which cannot easily be verified. In fact, these falsifications cause disturbance in the process of financial estimation of insurers and consequently lead to major amount of losses. The object of this research is to study the effect of deductible level's increase on the size of falsification which deliberately reported by the insured with the aim of gaining more money. Deductible means the portion of any claim that is not covered by the insurance provider. Indeed, it is the money which should be paid by the insured before the insurer covers any expenses. Briefly we will show in the situation of deductible level's increase, how parameters of an observed given contract will affect the incentives for fraudulent activities. To isolate the fraud effect related to the presence of a deductible in the contract, we jointly estimate a loss equation and a threshold equation using a data set of claims, collected by Iran insurance company in one year. Threshold is the amount over which an insured decides to report loss. It can be interpreted as a personal deductible which is not observable. Finally, our results show that after doing necessary corrections on selectivity, the level of deductible is a significant determinant of the reported losses..
