Summary or Abstract : This qualitative dissertation utilizes a prosopographical approach to investigate the dominant norms of evaluation as they affect the assessment approach of the Clinical Competency Examination (CCE) in a doctoral clinical psychology program. Prosopography, grounded in feminist notions of research, is a method of discerning organizational transformation through the life stories of individuals whose lives intersect in a specific institutional context. This approach blends personal biography and institutional history as it creates meaning and understanding (Safarik, 2002). This study will demonstrate that the outcome-only assessment model of the CCE within today's Professional Psychology Program is a modern day by-product of the long-standing dominant norms of society that have permeated psychology's academic institution throughout the 20 th century. Therefore, the nature of the CCE will be understood by uniting personal accounts with the institutional history and current social context. Evidence from the historical narratives, along with the strong support of literature, prompts the use of feminist research to trace the roots of the outcome-only assessment model of the CCE. Furthermore, literature demonstrates that feminist thought has had a long-standing relationship with the institution of academia and has offered substantial analyses and contributions. Therefore, feminist ideology inspires the creation of this current proposed summative assessment design of the Clinical Competency Examination. Implications for future research will be discussed..
