Summary or Abstract

This study examined the deception-detecting abilities of forensic and clinical graduate students and practicing psychologists. To test their deception-detecting abilities, participants ( N = 95) watched a videotape containing two different scenarios. The videotape was created by Frank and Ekman (1997) for a previous study. Each scenario on the videotape consisted of 5 men lying and 5 men telling the truth while being interrogated about either a mock theft or an opinion on a current event issue (see Frank & Ekman, 1997, for more procedural details). The participants had to judge who was lying and who was telling the truth for each scenario and indicate their answer on the accompanying questionnaire..
