Summary or Abstract : Preparing graduate students to be culturally competent psychologists is a challenging, yet significant endeavor. The role of power and privilege in our society intermittently recognizes and minimizes the importance of our cultural backgrounds, whether ethnic, sexual, religious, or otherwise. The American Psychological Association (APA) is committed to addressing the changing needs of our society through the creation of new ethical and multicultural guidelines in 2003 (Martin, 2002). Given the limited research on ethnic/racial minority graduate students in psychology as it relates to multicultural education, this study focuses on their experiences in a school of professional psychology, located in the Midwest. Using a qualitative, phenomenological research design, this investigation seeks to understand the experiences of ethnic/racial minority graduate students after receiving two semesters of multicultural education. This study also aspires to contribute to the literature by explaining the phenomenon of ethnic/racial minority psychology graduate students regarding multicultural education and competency..
