My Project Demonstrating Excellence consists of two components: the creation of the Center for Immigrant Families (CIF) 1 and this conceptual paper addressing its creation, development, methodology, ideology, structure, and vision. The project involved the creation of a center based on the ideological premises that movements for social justice and self-determination are most strengthened when there is an integration of a community's psychological, social, economic, and political needs and when affected communities are in the forefront and leadership of the organizing that takes place. The PDE looks at how and why the realization of these ideological premises can most meaningfully be achieved by a process that has popular education as the foundation of organizing efforts to further social justice. It is a transformative process that relies on the power and meaning of communal storytelling..
