Summary or Abstract

This professional psychology program development dissertation describes the need for the further development of the Education Competency in the Professional Psychology Clinical Competency Model, a product of the National Council for Schools of Professional Psychology (NCSPP). Review of the literature includes the history of higher education as it originated in Europe, its subsequent establishment in the United States, the development of the traditional psychology curriculum through the Boulder Conference, and the creation of the professional model [Doctor of Psychology (PsyD)] subsequent to the Vail Conference. The origins and mechanics of educational curriculum theory are applied to the PsyD Competency Model and utilized as tools in the development of an expanded curriculum inclusive of preparation of PsyD students for academic careers. Recommendations for continued program development will be suggested..
