Summary or Abstract : Higher education philosophers, scholars, faculty and staff have not and, seemingly, can not come to any consensus about the definitions of and distinctions between terms such as "liberal arts education," "liberal education," "liberal learning," "liberal arts colleges," and related liberal-esque terms (including "general education"). These terms are often used polysemously when users assume, incorrectly, that their conception of curriculum signified by certain such terms is shared by their audience. This research specifically investigated how semantic differences underlying these polysemous terms impact curricular reform efforts in their various stages..
