Summary or Abstract : It has been recognized that medical education does not adequately prepare future physicians to understand how culture influences patients' perceptions of health and health care and how perceptions effect treatment. Although some cross-cultural education initiatives in medical school date back to the 1970's, requiring cultural competency education in the medical schools is mostly still in its infancy.
