Summary or Abstract : This study explored the perceptions that students in special education had of their special education counselor. This was a qualitative study that utilized focus group interviews, follow-up interviews, and personal observations by the researcher and a trained observer. The study consisted of two focus groups with five participants each. Each participant had been diagnosed with a learning disability. The two sites chosen for the study included a campus that was economically advantaged and a campus that served economically disadvantaged students. The theoretical framework that was applied was that of Albert Ellis and his Rational Emotive Therapy. By including the voices of the participants, data concerning how students with learning disabilities perceived the special education counselor were gathered..
