Summary or Abstract : This qualitative case study examines the experiences of 11 middle school teachers while implementing a character education program into the existing curriculum of St. John's Catholic middle school. In three interviews, teachers discuss basic beliefs regarding the general nature of ethical education, including perceptions of how ethical education programs impact students; responsibilities of school administrators when initiating and sustaining such programs; requirements and methodology for evaluating ethical development; beliefs about teacher and parental role modeling responsibilities; and perceptions regarding strengths and weaknesses of the modified Character Counts program in use at St. John's..
