This study investigates the curriculum policies and instructional practices in music education in Kindergarten through third grade classrooms in a county central California. The study identified what elementary classroom music education looks like in Kindergarten through third grade; how districts reconcile state and national curriculum policies with the music education practices in their elementary classrooms; the strategies for change in curriculum and teaching which districts foresee in the implementation of those policies; and the barriers to implementations and how some districts overcame those barriers..
