Summary or Abstract : Dance is a mandated core subject area of study in the province of Saskatchewan. This study was conducted to explore the experiences of four urban K-6 arts education teachers who were expected to introduce, establish and maintain a viable dance program as prepared by Saskatchewan Education. The document was designed as a spiral curriculum beginning with kindergarten up to and including the document of this study entitled Arts Education: A Curriculum Guide Grade Five (1991). Methodology selected for this research was both quantitative and qualitative in design. For the quantitative portion of the study each subject completed a Demographic Survey and a Stages of Concern Questionnaire (Hall, George, Rutherford, 1998). Qualitative data were gathered through individual interviews with each subject, followed by a focus group discussion. Considerable attention was given in this study to the implementation of new curricula and recommendations were given on how a particular school should adopt and maintain new programming.
