Summary or Abstract
|

This study explores, analyzes, and interprets the use of emotion within meaning making construction of knowing for mental health practitioners in the development of their practice. A framework for a theory of emotion and how emotions are used within ways of knowing from Kegan's constructivist-developmental theory of subject-object relations is presented. This study shows emotion operating on two levels and the interaction between these two levels is how a therapist makes sense of or interprets his or her experiences within self and in relation to other; an evolving rearrangement of experiences due to new emerging structure that allows for this reorganization of old elements of experience..
