Summary or Abstract

Education as a socialization agent is a vehicle used to encourage students to identify with certain cultural traditions, national symbols, economic aims, or political ideology. Steered by a guiding philosophy, the educational mission provides insight into the attitudes of communal leaders toward the schooling process and serves as a foundation for the construction of institutional policies. As the educational system evolves, it is educators--trustees, benefactors and teachers--who wield a large amount of power within the learning structure. Involved in the development of textbooks and other educational resources, it is these individuals who determine what students will learn and how the material is taught..
