Summary or Abstract : The general objective of this study was to examine the factors associated with child health outcomes. Its specific focus was to examine the process through which maternal education influences child mortality and child nutrition among rural Egyptian children under five years of age. The conceptual model was drawn from Mosley and Chen's (1984) framework analyzing infant and child survival in developing countries. Based on this framework, an empirical model was developed in which three sets of mediating health supportive factors were identified. These health supportive factors were health care use, household health environment, and reproductive factors. The incorporation of these intermediate variables enabled tracing the pathways through which maternal education influences child health outcomes..
