Summary or Abstract : Research studies on mental health of Asians indicated that Korean immigrants exhibit a higher level of depression than other Asians. In an attempt to understand the relationship between some relevant factors that may contribute to depression, this study chose to explore the effect of acculturative stress and social support on depression using a cross-sectional, correlational, survey research design. The purposes of this study were fourfold: (a) to identify the pattern of expression of depression, e.g., affective, behavioral, cognitive, or somatic; (b) to explore the amount of variance in depression that was explained by acculturative stress; (c) to examine the relationship between social integration and depression; and (d) to examine the presence, direction, and strength of main effect and buffering effect of socially supportive relationships from the spouse, family members (siblings, parents, and children), friends, and coworkers. Lazarus and Folkman's stress and coping theory was used to guide this study..
