Summary or Abstract : The purpose of the research was to determine if responsibility, conflict resolution, problem solving, and cooperative learning can be learned in physical education classes by sixth grade students. The research questions were: (1) Is there a difference between experimental groups and the control group for responsibility? (2) Is there a difference between experimental groups and the control group for conflict resolution? (3) Is there a difference between experimental groups and the control group for problem solving? (4) Is there a difference between experimental groups and the control group for cooperative learning? The study applied quantitative and qualitative methods. Data were collected through a pre- post-test survey instrument, interviews conducted with students at the conclusion of the study, and instructor reflections of the intervention lessons. Experimental group students were taught lessons related to responsibility, conflict resolution, problem solving, and cooperative learning twice a week for 10 weeks. Control group students participated in activities that are part of the routine physical education curriculum. The findings of this study suggest that lessons which emphasize responsibility, conflict resolution, problem solving, and cooperative learning can be learned in physical education class. Qualitative data revealed differences between girls and boys relative to the intervention lessons and the concepts examined in the study.
