Summary or Abstract : "Teacher retention has become a national crisis. We have concluded that 'teacher shortages' will never end and that quality teaching will not be achieved for every child until we change the conditions that are driving teachers out of too many of our schools" (National Commission on Teaching and America's Future, 2003, p. 3).This phenomenological study examines a professional development model that was created to renew and, therefore, retain quality teachers. The research focuses on the teacher renewal Center, the North Carolina Center for the Advancement of Teaching (NCCAT). The characteristics of the experiences called renewal at NCCAT and how those NCCAT experiences affect teachers and their commitment to teaching are researched..
