Summary or Abstract : This study ascertained the educational philosophy of graduate social work faculty members. In addition, the relationship between personal characteristics, job constraints, and pedagogical and andragogical educational orientations and personal characteristics of (1) sex, (2) age, (3) race/ethnicity, (4) highest degree, (5) years of teaching experience, (6) teaching areas, (7) areas of social work practice, and (8) years of social work practice experience were assessed. The relationships with number of students per term and number of classes per term were also investigated. The sample of 346 faculty members in graduate schools of social work were surveyed through a mailed questionnaire. The major findings of the study were: (1) women were more andragogical than men, (2) social work educators were more pedagogical than andragogical, (3) human behavior/social environment instructors tended to be less pedagogical than other faculty members, and (4) andragogical orientation increased with number of years of clinical social work practice..
