Summary or Abstract : Belly dance is the common name of a Middle Eastern dance form that has been gaining popularity in the United States and around the world. Historically, belly dancing was a form of entertainment and celebration, along with preparation for childbirth. In modern times, belly dance has been reported to enhance physical fitness and also offer psychological benefits such as increased self-esteem, improved body concept, and enhanced creative expression. These reports appear to be anecdotal. The research question for this study was, "Among women who describe changes after taking belly dance classes, what physical and psychological changes do they report experiencing?".
