Summary or Abstract : Mens studies is a rapidly developing multidisciplinary discourse in which investigation of the body is prioritized as a means to further comprehend the dynamic construction of subjectivity. Over the past decade gender theorists have increasingly engaged this discourse, their contributions demonstrating maintained commitment to feminist theoretical perspectives. However, these perspectives have received critical attention from within mens studies, questioning the fecundity of feminist theoretical frameworks in the investigation of the relationship between gendered subjectivity and the body. Notably, the psychoanalytic theory which gender theorists have introduced to mens studies, understood here as feminist psychoanalysis, has appeared prepared to recognize male subjectivity only within a very narrow, and decidedly derogatory, scope..
