Summary or Abstract : The President's Law Enforcement Task Force Report (1967) recommended increased emphasis on psychological screening for police. Since then, such screening has become mandated in approximately 22 states. Two paper and pencil tests, the Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory and California Psychological Inventory, are among the most widely used standardized tests for preemployment screening with police. Also popular are non-standardized procedures such as oral board exam and clinical interview. There is currently no standardized, behavioral, job-related assessment device for preemployment screening of police. It was the purpose of this research to develop and validate such a test using Goldfried and D'Zurilla's behavioral analytic model of competence..
