Summary or Abstract : Communication behaviors exhibited in adult (traditional and non-traditional) classrooms affect learning and student development. The methods teachers use to communicate with traditional and non-traditional students and the way the students react play key roles in meeting students' need for successful educational outcomes. Adult Learning Theory and Communication Accommodation Theory are examined and then considered together to show how they provide a foundation for effective instructor-student communicative exchange. These two theories are interwoven throughout adult education and when embedded in instructor behaviors could successfully help create the environment necessary for traditional and non-traditional student success..
