Summary or Abstract : Caring for a child with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is very demanding and the strain is a tremendous burden for many parents. Unfortunately, there are a limited number of systematic studies examining the association between ASD and psychological adjustment in mothers. This study explored how child illness factors, maternal and child characteristics, and psychosocial processes (appraisal of stress and resources for coping) influence psychological adjustment in mothers of children with ASD using an adaptation of Thompson and colleagues' (1992, 1993) transactional stress and coping model..
