Its purpose was to provide initial summative data exploring the possibility that the implementation of the Sesame Street Preschool Education Program (PEP) Initiative has an effect on the thinking skills of four and five-year-old day care students. The sample for this study included 36 predominantly middle class four and five-year-olds who regularly attended one of two suburban day care centers. The four intact classes participated in ten weeks of treatment. Teachers were trained by the PEP staff using normal PEP training. Research teachers provided daily records of participation of each of the students in each of the four required activities..
