Summary or Abstract : The Enneagram, a psychospiritual personality system, and Schema Therapy, a cognitive technique developed in part by Jeffrey Young, will be explored, compared, and integrated. Both of these systems aim to help people overcome maladaptive ways of being in the world and focus on altering the distorted lenses with which people view the world. The Enneagram describes nine personality types. By identifying a person's Enneagram type, the particular lenses or distortions become clear. Growth involves movement away from the limitation of personality and towards essence, a person's highest capacities, which involves a connection with the divine. The Enneagram can be used for both clinical and non-clinical populations. Schema Therapy involves a systematic approach to treating clients in therapy by identifying maladaptive beliefs, identifying their origins, identifying the thoughts and behaviors that maintain them, and working to change these thoughts, behaviors, and maladaptive beliefs. Therapeutic strategies and interventions with each of the nine Enneagram types will be exploring by identifying the maladaptive beliefs and schemas associated with each type. Specific suggestions for interventions and approaches for each type will be made. Together these theories form a comprehensive system that takes into account a person's personality, essence, and maladaptive ways of being in the world, and incorporates a systematic and scientific approach to help people grow and change..
