Summary or Abstract : This study explores the value of broadening current academic criteria to include personal qualities for the prediction of counselor effectiveness. Traditionally, graduate admission standards have focused heavily on academic criteria (undergraduate grade point average, Graduate Record Exam scores, etc.). However, the literature reflects that these academic criteria either have no significant relationship or a negative relationship to counselor effectiveness. This study examines the benefit of including personal qualities of applicants with these academic criteria to enhance the prediction of counselor effectiveness. Subjects included 88 masters level counseling students and their respective practicum or internship supervisors..
