Summary or Abstract : The focus of the research is on the effects of outsourcing on the information technology professional. The study assesses displaced IT professionals' perceptions of job security, compensation, and competition, as well as economic and psychological reactions such as resentment, anxiety, and other feelings with respect to the outsourcing experience. The study goal is to determine the effects of outsourcing, whether positive or negative. The research design employed for this study is a qualitative method, combining an extensive review of the relevant literature with a series of semi-structured interviews of a group of IT professionals. IT professionals are interviewed for an in-depth examination and discussion of their perceptions of IT outsourcing, as it affects them. This study found that the displaced IT professionals who found a comparable replacement IT job had to relocate. The IT professional can expect to earn the same IT annual salary as earned at the previously outsourced IT job. Over half of the participants changed careers, moving away from IT.
