Summary or Abstract : Along with poor process and product performance, software development projects commonly exceed forecasted schedules and costs. The majority of previous studies have applied risk management techniques to problems in information technology (IT) developed countries such as the United States. However, this study aims to explore software risk management issues in developing IT countries and how risk management approaches differ with various IT maturity levels. Using data collected from software development projects in Korea, this study tests the relevance of residual performance risk and its affect on objective performance measures. An alternative conceptualization of risk was developed in an effort to create a measure that relates to both subjective and objective performance measures. The results show that both residual performance risk and our alternative risk conceptualization are significant predicators of performance measures in an IT developing country..
