Summary or Abstract : The purpose of this study was to determine if there was a difference in the student achievement of 11 th graders in Texas public schools headed by female superintendents when compared to districts led by male superintendents. Student achievement was measured by the 2006 Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) test and the 2006 Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT). A sampling was taken of Texas public school superintendents who served 3-10 years in their respective district. Three independent-samples t tests were conducted to determine whether the difference in student achievement results for districts led by female superintendents compared to districts led by male superintendents was significant. The variable of gender did not influence the results measured by the 2006 Math TAKS test, the English/Language Arts TAKS test, or the 2006 SAT..
