Summary or Abstract : his study examined the relationship between adult attachment style, level of differentiation, and marital satisfaction in a convenience sample of couples (N-130) married at least 3-years and residing in Minneapolis and St. Paul, Minnesota. The sample included an equal number of clinical and community couple participants. Employing the Experiences in Close Relationships (ECR) scales, the Differentiation of Self Inventory-Revised (DSI-R), and a combination of the Dyadic Adjustment Scale (DAS), and the Relationship Satisfaction Questionnaire (RSAT), the study provided evidence of preferentiality in the use of attachment measures in delineating marital satisfaction. Of the seven variables analyzed, overall results suggest attachment avoidance as the strongest predictor of marital satisfaction.
