Summary or Abstract : Understanding the sexual lives of adolescents and young adults is crucial to public health policy. Religion is one factor that influences sexual behavior. Researchers have found a relationship between religious measures and sexual behaviors in more than eighty studies. Using data from wave three of the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health, the current analysis examines the relationship between both religiosity and religious affiliation and a variety of sexual behaviors. Furthermore, this research explores the link between pledging virginity until marriage and religion, and the role that taking such a pledge plays in sexual decision making. Results from the regression models indicate that religiosity decreases the likelihood of intercourse, anal, and oral sex. Additionally, virginity pledgers were less likely than non-pledgers to engage in intercourse or oral sex. However, regression models explained little of the variation in the dependent variables suggesting that other factors are better predictors of sexual behavior..
