Summary or Abstract : The identity process of adolescents who had been relinquished and adopted during infancy was compared with that of adolescents who had always lived with their biological parents. It was postulated that the process of identity formation would be more difficult for the adoptee than for the non-adoptee and that any ease of identity formation would be attributable to adoptive family openness concerning adoption. It also was hypothesized that, among adoptees, difficult identity formation would be correlated with specific variables..
